Vice President of Marketing Services for Encompass Health

Johnny A. Smith Jr. serves as the vice president of marketing services for Encompass Health, a national leader in post-acute care services. Encompass Health operates 136 hospitals and more than 300 home health and hospice locations in 39 states and Puerto Rico. In his role, Smith leads a team of marketing, communications, creative services, digital marketing and print service professionals.

Previously, he was national senior director of marketing and communications for Ascension, the largest non-profit health system in the United States. Prior to his national Ascension role, Smith was system director of corporate communications for St. Vincent, a 22-hospital system and one of the largest employers in Indiana. He began his career at Indiana University Health, the largest health system in the state with gross revenues of $7 billion.

Smith has a Master of Arts in Communication from Johns Hopkins University. He also earned his Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from Ball State University.

He serves on the American Lung Association National Board, and is a past board member for the UNCF St. Louis, Marillac Mission Fund, Madame Walker Theatre Center and Saving Orphans through Healthcare and Outreach.
