Dr. Purdon completed her undergraduate studies at Wayne State University in Detroit and earned a Master of Business Administration with a focus in Healthcare Administration at Baker College in Detroit. She received her medical degree from American University of Antigua School of Medicine. Dr. Purdon completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and is pursuing her fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Purdon's current research interests include interstitial lung disease and gender diversity in academic medicine. She has presented on topics such as uncontrolled asthma and azithromycin, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, pulmonary hypertension, and patient safety.

Dr. Purdon is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Physicians.
