Steve Cothalis, RRT
Steve Cothalis began his volunteer work with the American Lung Association in Vermont in 1997. Since then he has volunteered each year for the five-day residential asthma camp.
He has volunteered and/or participated in nearly every single fundraiser Vermont has had over the years from Blow the Whistle on Asthma walks to the Bennington Battle Monument Stair Climb and LUNG FORCE Walks.
Steve founded and facilitated the Better Breathers Club Support Group at Copley Hospital in Morrisville, Vermont and has mentored healthcare professionals to start new Better Breathers Clubs.
He's recruited members of his Better Breathers Club groups to participate or volunteer in many of the events and organized an annual car wash to benefit the American Lung Association with Club members and hospital staff. He once said, "It's a charge for me as a Respiratory Therapist to see patients, who months ago could not do much, wash cars and cook food for three hours!"
Steve challenges the Better Breathers Club members to reach physically further than most can imagine. He encourages them to set goals, including walking up to 3.1 miles in the Lung Association's Healthy Air Walk and the LUNG FORCE Walk.
He served on the leadership board and various planning committees, participated in many American Lung Association trainings, including the Asthma Educator Institutes and COPD Educator Institutes and he also organized transportation for his patients to attend the LUNG FORCE Expo.
He is a true volunteer.
