Colorado Clean Cities Coalitions

The Denver Metro Clean Cities Coalition and the Southern Colorado Clean Cities Coalition are funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and administered by the American Lung Association in Colorado.

The mission of these Coalitions is to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector, decreasing the amount of harmful lung pollutants in the air and helping people breathe easier.

In 2015, the coalitions assisted stakeholders in displacing a combined total of 7.2 million gallons of petroleum and 22 million pounds of CO2 through the use of petroleum reduction strategies and programs.

Each Coalition host a variety of programs focused on:

  • Alternative Fuels and Vehicles
  • Hybrids, Battery Electric, and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technologies
  • Fuel Economy and Vehicle Efficiencies
  • Idle reduction Equipment and Technologies

Some specific programs include:

Driving Change: This program partners with large employers and has put thousands of people behind the wheel of electric and hybrid vehicles. Experiential learning is a very effective way of educating the public, dispelling misconceptions and providing accurate information about new technologies.

Refuel Colorado Fleets: In partnership with the Colorado Energy Office, this program provides complimentary consultation to fleets and communities looking to adopt alternative fuels.

Stakeholder Collaboration: The Coalitions leverage support from the DOE, national energy labs, and a stakeholder network of nearly 20,000 in order to promote local markets for alternative fuels.
